Bright Green Nature Appoints Lisa McLeish as Biodiversity Officer
Scottish Borders, UK – August 16, 2024 – Bright Green Nature the Scottish Borders based nature restoration charity, is delighted to announce the appointment of Lisa McLeish as its new Biodiversity Officer. In this pivotal role, Lisa will be responsible for developing and implementing the Biodiversity Action Plan for the charity’s species-rich grassland site, the Deer Park, Selkirk, a vital initiative aimed at restoring and conserving the area’s unique ecosystems.
Lisa brings a wealth of experience in species and habitat conservation, having held key positions with several Borders-based environmental organisations, including Go Wild Scotland and present positions in Scottish Badgers (Borders) and the Scottish Borders Pine Marten group. Her deep-rooted passion for nature and expertise in biodiversity conservation make her an ideal candidate to lead Bright Green Nature’s efforts in safeguarding one of the region’s most valuable natural resources.
Restoring and Preserving Rare Ecosystems
The Deer Park site, known for its rare calcareous grassland ecosystem, is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna, some of which are at risk due to habitat degradation, land use change and environmental pressures. The charity also received funding from NatureScot’s Nature Restoration Fund in 2023, to restore the ancient and degraded wetlands on this site. Bright Green Nature’s Biodiversity Action Plan, under Lisa’s leadership, will focus on enhancing the ecological integrity of the site. This will involve targeted conservation strategies to promote species diversity, protect endangered species, and restore natural habitats over the long term.
A Strong Track Record in Nature Conservation
Lisa McLeish has dedicated her career to protecting the natural environment of the Scottish Borders. Her hands-on experience and collaborative approach will be instrumental in driving forward Bright Green Nature’s mission to create a sustainable future for the region’s natural heritage.
“We are thrilled to welcome Lisa to the Bright Green Nature team,” said Dr Karen Blackport, Chief Executive Director of Bright Green Nature. “Her extensive background in biodiversity and conservation will be invaluable as we work to restore the Deer Park site. We are confident that under her leadership, our efforts will have a lasting impact on the preservation of this unique and precious ecosystem.”
