Scottish Borders, 6th September 2024 — Bright Green Nature, a leading charity dedicated to nature restoration, is delighted to announce the further development of a garden tool library to households, schools, and community groups across the Scottish Borders. This initiative, aimed at empowering local communities to restore and enhance their natural spaces, was originally made possible through generous funding from the Asda Foundation, now joined by Newbridge Construction Supplies, Edinburgh, who have also sourced and supplied the tools.
The project, which aligns with Bright Green Nature’s mission to reconnect people with nature, will enable a wide range of participants to bring back Nature to their gardens, schoolyards, and community spaces, fostering biodiversity and creating restored natural environments. By equipping individuals and groups with the necessary tools, the charity is helping to transform neglected areas into thriving ecosystems, bringing nature closer to home for many in the region. This initiative complements Bright Green Nature’s ‘Wild Your Space’ Microfund, which provides grants to families, schools and communities to bring nature back to their spaces.
Dr Karen Blackport, Chief Executive Director of Bright Green Nature, expressed her excitement about the initiative:
“We are thrilled to see this project come to life. Thanks to the provision of funding and support from Newbridge Construction Supplies, which has added to the original funsinf from Asda Foundation, we are empowering communities to take positive action in their own backyards. Together, we are nurturing a collective effort to restore nature, which will benefit not only our environment but also the well-being of everyone involved.”
Grant Paterson of Newbridge Construction Supplies, commented:
“At Newbridge Construction Supplies, we understand the importance of community and sustainability. It’s an honour to contribute to a project that not only supports local households and schools but also aligns with our commitment to environmental stewardship. Simon Pickering of Newbridge Construction Supplies, added: “We look forward to seeing the positive changes this initiative will bring to the Scottish Borders.”
As the garden tools are distributed, Bright Green Nature will continue to engage with the participating households, schools, and community groups, offering guidance and support to ensure the success of their nature restoration efforts. The charity hopes this initiative will serve as a model for similar projects across the country, demonstrating the power of community-led environmental action.
