Areas of particular interest are listed below.
- Biodiversity Baseline & Monitoring
Objective: Catalogue flora and fauna (plants, invertebrates, birds, fungi) using quadrat surveys, transects and citizen science apps to track and measure impact of restoration over time. - Soil Health & Carbon Storage Study
Objective: Analyse soil composition, structure, organic matter, and carbon levels in restored vs. unmanaged plots, to assess role of species-rich grasslands in climate mitigation. - Traditional Grazing & Biodiversity Dynamics
Objective: Study the effects of light or rotational grazing (e.g. with cattle or ponies) on species diversity, sward height, and soil compaction, comparing with ungrazed areas. Possibility of also looking at invertebrate diversity or microbial diversity over the site, including areas of compaction. - Fungi and Mycorrhizal Networks Study
Objective: Survey fungal species and examine soil-root relationships in healthy grassland systems. - Restoration of the Environmental microbiome and impact on human immune health
Objective: compare the microbiome of urban and rural environments and determine whether restoration of the urban microbiological community can positively impact human immune health. See here to review Dr Blackport’s presentation at the Citizen Zoo conference, January 2025 - Nature & Wellbeing Impact Study
Objective: Evaluate how time in the Deer Park affects mental wellbeing, using surveys, journaling, or creative expression.
Deer Park: Our Living Laboratory
Every day Deer Park offers the opportunity to learn more about our natural world: from the identification of living things great and small to understanding the complex interactions at play in this thriving ecosystem.
We also offer opportunities to develop survey & monitoring skills and take part in citizen science activities.
Whether you’re an individual, a teacher, a community leader or a business, we’d love to help you get the most out of our living classroom. Visit our “Work with Us” and “News and Events” pages to see where you can start your learning journey.
