The Scottish Borders Young Rewilders group is an all-new initiative, the first of its kind in the country, established by Bright Green Nature in early 2025.
If you are aged between 16 and 25 and care about nature, wildlife, climate change, biodiversity, and have a passion for nature restoration then this group is for you. Here you have an opportunity to be an active part of something unique and exciting that is based right here – in the Scottish Borders!
Ultimately, we hope that the group will develop its own momentum, where the members will come up with most of the ideas, therefore deciding for themselves what direction they will take this. But here is a taste of what you can expect – based on the group’s activities and successes so far…..
Connections and Networking
- You will connect to other like-minded young people. People from different parts of the region and from different backgrounds, but who share your passion for nature and the desire to make things better.
- Work with various local community groups and projects.
- You will be able to connect with and learn from other nature restoration groups and charities, while helping them to achieve their own goals. Perhaps you may even set up your own rewilding project.
- We will introduce you to influencers and activists from all over the country and beyond.
- Importantly, you will have more time to connect and nurture a deeper understanding with nature.
Enjoyable Education Opportunities and Awards
- We will give you lots of opportunities to volunteer and get valuable hands-on experience with local rewilding sites.
- There will be chances to engage in valuable and meaningful research, where you will gather an understanding of the importance of this work.
- Many interesting and diverse training and education opportunities will come your way – from outdoor work to media skills.
- Gain valuable accreditations for your time and effort. We can work with your chosen provider, e.g. Duke of Edinburgh Awards, the John Muir Awards or the Youth Achievement Awards.

Activities and Advocacy
- You could be creating social media content and enhancing valuable skills at the same time.
- Join us for days out in nature, helping with nature restoration work and biodiversity studies.
- Help us to organise events and fundraisers, or plan your own event.
- Take part in demonstrations – at the Scottish Parliament or elsewhere.
- Learn more about political advocacy and how to influence future policies.
- Attend bespoke learning days which have been planned and arranged with our own group members, with their particular interests in mind.
Your Own Community
- Stay connected with your fellow rewilders by taking part in regular online meetings, often featuring respected guest speaker from the Rewilding world
- Join the others on Discord to share thoughts and ideas
- Get involved with the group Facebook and Instagram pages to interact with your fellow Rewilders and with the group’s followers
Participation in the Young Rewilders will not only give you an opportunity to have your voice heard (to speak up for yourself and for other young people), it will give you a chance to bring your ideas to life and to shape your own future. You will be able to use your valuable existing talents whilst developing essential real-world skills – skills that colleges, universities and employers look for. One result could be an enhanced CV that will give you a distinct advantage should you have ambitions of a fulfilling career within the rapidly expanding Green Economy.
We do appreciate that young people are busy people – studies, jobs, friends, clubs, and so on, but the amount of time you commit is entirely up to you. Obviously, the more you put into this, the more you will get out of it. But, whether you give 2 hours/month or 10 hours/month, you will be making a difference – to nature, to the community and to yourself.
Regardless of how much time you can commit, you will receive unwavering support from the dedicated team at Bright Green Nature. We will be here to provide advice, assistance, resources, access to key contacts and more – much more. Basically, we are here to support you to ensure that this group works, and that the individuals within it are a success. In other words, we will have your backs!
I’m interested! How do I get involved?

We also welcome interest from local Youth Groups who would like to share this opportunity with their own young people. We also offer a short talk and presentation if that is of interest.
