Bright Green Nature is looking for a Project Coordinator to help lead Future Voices for Nature, a new youth‑led programme funded by Young Start from The National Lottery Community Fund. The programme will support young people aged 8–24 across the Scottish Borders to build confidence, develop skills, improve wellbeing and strengthen their connection with nature and their local communities. This role is about creating opportunities that feel welcoming, meaningful and genuinely shaped by young people themselves.
Future Voices for Nature combines outdoor learning, environmental action, volunteering, creative projects and youth leadership. It places particular emphasis on reaching young people who may face barriers to participation or who have limited access to opportunities. We’re looking for someone who can help young people feel heard, valued and able to influence the world around them.
About the role
Working three days per week and based in Melrose, the Project Coordinator will lead the day‑to‑day delivery of the programme. You’ll spend time outdoors, in schools, in community settings and directly with young people, helping them take part in activities that build confidence, social connections and practical skills.
The role involves planning and running nature‑based sessions, organising workshops and events, supporting volunteers, working with families and schools, and building relationships with partner organisations across the Borders. You’ll also help young people shape the programme through youth‑led activities and a Youth Steering Group, ensuring their ideas and experiences guide what we do.
Monitoring and evaluation are an important part of the role too — gathering feedback, stories and evidence of impact to help us understand how the programme is making a difference.
This is a varied, hands‑on position within a small charity team, suited to someone who enjoys working with young people, is comfortable outdoors and can bring energy, empathy and creativity to the work.
The post runs until September 2027 and is paid at £24,960 pro‑rata (£14,976 per year).
Who we’re looking for
We’re keen to hear from people with experience working with children or young people in any setting — youth work, education, community projects, outdoor learning or similar. You’ll need strong communication skills, the ability to build positive relationships and a commitment to inclusion and youth participation.
An understanding of safeguarding is essential, as is the ability to organise activities and manage a varied workload. Experience supporting neurodivergent young people or those facing additional barriers would be helpful, though not essential. Above all, we’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with young people and wants to help them develop confidence, skills and a connection with nature.
